For God's sake, implement an installer through a launcher, I hate having my install corrupted (incidentally, the repair tool was worthless) and spending a week trying to download a 5.5 gig client through a slow connection that takes 7 hours. Maybe you could stop tweaking high end content for PvP nerds long enough to make simply installing the game something that doesn't make me want to claw my eyes out?
World of Warcraft has this feature. Warhammer Online has this feature. Aion has this feature. Diablo III has this feature.
So why the hell can't I install the EVE launcher and download the client through there with periodic interruptions? This is ridiculous; you don't even have a torrent distribution of the client that I can find. |

Well, I give up. Fortunately this is all occurring right at the end of a month for me, so I just froze my account. It's unfortunate because I was really enjoying playing, but apparently installing EVE Online on a Mac is completely unfeasible without a high speed internet connection. The every day use of my computer precludes me just letting it sit for an entire day to download an enormous .dmg that cannot be interrupted or disturbed. I'll resubscribe when/if I ever manage to get the client reinstalled, but really, CCP needs to understand that the lack of support for the Mac client made it impossible for me to play.
If the Mac had an option to install via a downloaded launcher, like the Windows version, this wouldn't be an issue. If I could torrent the client, like the Windows version, this wouldn't be an issue. Heck, I'd settle for downloading the client chunked into payloads, which is an option for Windows but not for Mac.
What can I say? I loath this situation, but the single distribution approach of CCP for Macs: start a 5.5 gigabyte download on this .dmg and pray to God your internet doesn't flicker or your computer do anything unexpected over the course of the next ~8-9 hours doesn't work. |
